I first realized I might have some talent as a writer at the age of sixteen when I discovered I could get paid for what I wrote. My career as a Ghost Writer began my senior year of high school. As it happened the Head Football Coach was also the senior class English Literature teacher. I enjoyed a lucrative, if brief, career penning creative writing stories for members of the football team. The experience taught me a very important lesson about criticism in general and literary criticism most particularly. Over the course of the year when I wrote under the ‘Noms de plume’ of first string football players Coach Ryan rewarded my efforts with nothing less than ‘A’. When I wrote under my own name, with greater effort, I was somewhat more modestly rewarded. From that time to this I have received my portions of criticism with a serving of skepticism on the side.
